What's New

2012 – THE YEAR OF THE COLLECTIBLES

In 2012 we will be adding lots of Collectibles to our online selection. Some truly wonderful books will become available – some of which I am very reluctant to sell! – so keep a watchful eye on the site. And a little hint for those who are hunting for a treasure – Collectibles are not just listed under our ‘Collectibles’ header…..you will find them within many of the other specialty categories. Have fun!

The Saturday Age Commends The Stray Dog!

14 February

In the Feb 4, 2012 edition of The Saturday Age, in an article addressing the demise of yet another bookshop, Jason Steger laments the loss of what he calls “the excellent Stray Dog second-hand bookshop”. Some years back The Age also nominated us in their Top 5 Bookshops for their annual Top 5 publication. Thanks for the praise……we were sad to go. For us it was a very special shop patronised by our very special and seriously discerning customers!

Great New Stock Now Available

30 September

Winter was a busy time for us, processing the stock we acquired on our buying trip earlier this year. Now that Spring has sprung, I urge you to check our catalogue so you can be one of the first to snatch up some of these recent treats. And remember to keep checking back – there are lots more to come!

Of particular interest to many will be the new Military books, both WW1 and WW2, the Australiana and the Children’s books. But you will also find many new art & photography books, seafaring & exploration books, local histories, and some very fine first edition literature. And then there’s the Rare and Collectibles, which you will also find within each genre…….It’s all part of the treasure hunt!

…………..

The Stray Dog was a supporter of “Buy Nothing New Month” and we congratulate the organisers on their initiative. We hope it becomes an annual Australian event. Recycling is central to our philosophy. We live in an era where so much is disposable, where products are designed not to last, where today’s new thrill is tomorrow’s land-fill!

Let’s try to rediscover those old-fashioned practices of recycling, sharing, creating, altering, adapting……..as individuals, as a nation, and as members of a global community, we will all be the beneficaries.

“Never read a book that is not at least a year old” Ralph Waldo Emerson.

"A bookstore is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking"
