Plus a 5th Volume, being a Supplementary volume, 'CONTINUING THE BIOGRAPHIES TO THE PRESENT TIME', & edited by the Rev Thos Thompson. NUMEROUS FULL PAGE ENGRAVED PORTRAITS.Tightly bound in 3/4 calf with gilt titles & raised bands to spines, & marbled edges which are very good. Hinges are all strong and sound. Pagination is 579, 604, 575, 496 & 668. Leather is worn at corners, edges with some loss at spines. Foxing is scattered throughout. All volumes have some degree of water damage and in several there is considerable watermarking. Books remain sound, with text legible. The Supplementary volume has considerable watermarking and a little mould on endpapers. Despite damage a very informative. This set is really for reference purposes only.
