Before the Lamps Are Lit

First Edition, 1911. Tarella Quin [Daskein] was a noted author of Australian fairy stories. ILLUSTRATED BY IDA RENTOUL OUTHWAITE WITH APPROXIMATELY 50 BLACK AND WHITE ILLUSTRATIONS. Contains: Before the Lamps are Lit; Ebenezer's Anniversary; Constellation Jam; Poppy and the Pixies; The Strange Adventures of Aunt Martha and The Binnajig and the Tattyoon.... all with beautiful accompanying illustrations. Binding is tight and completely sound with Illustrated boards. The boards show some wear/rubbing with whitish marks and spotting to front and back [please see photos]. Internally the book is very good. One page has some small black spots on it and there are some scattered marks, and at edges; one of the illustrations has loss at one corner and a couple of pages have tiny nicks; else the book is really very good. There is an author inscription written in pencil which can be erased but we have elected to retain since the book's previous owner was the noted Australian artist Enid Philip and it appears that these illustrations and this book may have provided some of her inspiration [may account for the little black spots [paint?] on the page mentioned above!]. 190 pp. A RARE AND HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE BOOK.
