Very good First Edition in near fine unclipped dust jacket. Born in 1786, Franklin, explorer, naval officer & later administrator of Van Diemen's Land, sailed to Australia with his uncle Matthew Flinders at the age of 15. His arctic voyage is one of the great epics tales of British exploration. Sixteen pps of very nice illustrations/prints incl frontis of Sir John from the watercolour of W. Derby. Three maps at rear showing The American Polar Regions; The Arctic Regions as Known in 1845; The End of Franklin's Last Voyage. No inscriptions or stamps; binding strong. Touch of tanning, & spotting to leaf edges, else vg. 293 pp protected by mylar sleeve.
