John Knatchbull From Quarterdeck to Gallows


1963. First Edition. "Including the Narrative Written by Himself in Darlinghurst Gaol 23rd January - 13 February, 1844. John Knatchbull was the son of a Baronet, a relative of Sir Joseph Banks, and rose to the rank of Commander in the British Navy before being transported in 1824 at the age of 34. He was hanged in 1844 in Darlinghurst Gaol. Binding is very good, clean and tight with no previous owner inscriptions, in very good unclipped dust jacket which has few nicks, chips, wear at extremities and is now protected in removable archival sleeve. 278 pp.
