In this collectible volume, the noted US author and philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson gives seven lectures about famous men: Napoleon or The Man of the World, Montaigne or The Sceptic, Goethe or The Writer, Shakespeare or The Poet, Swedenborg or The Mystic, plus two lectures on Plato & a chapter on Uses of Great men. 211 pp with no publisher's adverts but 3 fepps to front & 4 fepps at rear. Not dated but inscribed by Grace MacDougall on July 8th 1898. Clean, tight binding with all pages lightly & equally tanned owing to age of paper. Little wear to head & tail of spine.
