Maroon binding with black titles to front board and spine, and image of charging soldiers on horseback to front board, is strong & clean. No ownership inscriptions. The preface states "It is timely to present a volume like this, dealing with the conditions that have produced the European crisis of 1914" & details the developments of the military and naval operations. Chapters include Causes of the War; How War was Declared; Invasion of Belgium; German Advance on Paris; Britain Raises an Army; The Battle of Marne; The Russian Campiagn; Military Leaders of Europe; Stories from the Battlefields; Submarines & Mines; Aero-Military Operations; Battle of Aisne; Fall of Antwerp; Horrors of the war; Sinking of the Lusitania.....and much much more. 482 pp + an appendix on The Canadian Contingent of 32 pp. Book is dated 1914 but this must refer to first publication, as the last references in book refer to events of 1916, so it appears that it was published prior to end of war - hence the sense of immediacy that book conveys.
