The 300 + mile journey on the historic Tokaido required the presence of one to three thousand attendants. Yuki's father has been called to Edo and she, along with her mother, must accompany him in the royal procession. She will miss her home and her teacher, she knows she will be homesick....but as the procession makes its long journey, the splendor and magnificence of the Japanese landscape soften Yuki's longing....
